U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte woman charged with False Statement to a Grand Jury was sentenced on December 10, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Jacie Cavanaugh, age 29, was sentenced to 9 months’ probation, $48 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment.

Cavanaugh was indicted for First Degree Burglary and Larceny by a federal grand jury in June 2012. Cavanaugh pled guilty to a Superseding Information charging False Statement to a Grand Jury on September 13, 2012.

The conviction stems from a sworn statement that Cavanaugh made before a judicial proceeding in which she stated that she did not know an individual, when in fact, she did know the individual and was involved in a drug transaction with that person.

The investigation was conducted by Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley.
