Spearfish Woman Sentenced for Not Paying Taxes

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Spearfish woman charged with Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax was sentenced on December 30, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Mary Clark, age 68, was sentenced to 2 years' probation and ordered to pay unpaid taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, as well as $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Following her indictment, Clark admitted that during the years 2003 and 2004 she received pension benefits from the State of Colorado for which she knowingly evaded paying federal income tax. Clark pled guilty on September 14, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case.
