Manderson Man Guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Michael Ghost, age 18, of Manderson, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on January 19, 2012, and pled guilty to a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 8 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

In August 2011, near Manderson, Ghost got into an argument with another person, got into a pickup truck and ran over him, and then fled the scene. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for April 4, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
