Pine Ridge Man Sentenced for Stabbing

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge man charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon was sentenced on March 26, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Derek Lamont, age 25, was sentenced to 46 months' imprisonment, 3 years' supervised release, and a $100 assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

In June 2011, Lamont stabbed his girlfriend multiple times after they had been arguing. He pled guilty on January 4, 2012.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe-Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.
Lamont was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
