United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man living in Utah charged with Illegal Reentry After Deportation was sentenced on March 23, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Israel Murillo-Silva, age 28, was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment.
In October 2011, after being stopped by the South Dakota Highway Patrol for speeding in Lawrence County, Murillo-Silva was found to be living in the United States illegally, having previously been deported to Mexico. He pleaded guilty on February 10, 2012.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Immigration & Customs Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.
