United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Manderson man charged with Involuntary Manslaughter was sentenced on April 9, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.
Michael L. Ghost, age 19, was sentenced to 37 months' imprisonment, 3 years' supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
In August 2011, near Manderson, Ghost, after an argument with the victim, got into a pickup truck and drove recklessly, resulting in Ghost striking the victim with the vehicle and killing him. Ghost pleaded guilty on January 19, 2012.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.
Ghost was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
