Colorado Woman Pleads to Use of a Communication Facility in Causing or Facilitating the Commission of Felonies under the Controlled Substances Act

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Kirstin Myrum, age 22, of Westminster, Colorado, appeared before United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on May 25, 2012, and pleaded guilty to a Superseding Information that charged her with Use of a Communication Facility in Causing or Facilitating the Commission of Felonies under the Controlled Substances Act. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 4 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

The charge relates to Myrum knowingly and intentionally using a cellular telephone in facilitating the commission of a felony charge of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and cocaine on March 29, 2011, in South Dakota.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ted McBride.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for September 28, 2012. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
