
Martin Man Sentenced on Drug Charge

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Martin man charged with distribution of a controlled substance was sentenced on December 11, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Jimmy Joe Cottier, age 26, was sentenced to 3 years' probation and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. Cottier was indicted for distributing marijuana at Martin on February 23, 2012. Cottier pled guilty to the charge on August 29, 2012. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Martin Police Department, and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Shattuck prosecuted the case. |
