
Rapid City Man Convicted of Felon in Possession of a Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City man convicted of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm was sentenced on December 12, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Christopher Arehart, age 39, was sentenced to 42 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. Arehart was indicted on March 20, 2012, for being in possession of a rifle on February 2, 2012, at Rapid City, after having been previously convicted of a felony. Arehart pleaded guilty to the charge on August 16, 2012. This case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Shattuck prosecuted the case. Christopher Arehart was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. |
