New York Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Hannibal, New York, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on January 23, 2012, by US District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Michael C. Hutchinson, age 38, was sentenced to five years of unsupervised probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the total amount of $49,905.14.

Hutchinson was indicted for failing to pay past child support in excess of $47,559 by a federal grand jury on April 6, 2011. Hutchinson was ordered to pay child support to two separate custodial parents. At the time of indictment, he had failed to meet his court-ordered child support obligations. Hutchinson pled guilty to the charge on January 23, 2012.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
