Colorado Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Telluride, Colorado, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on March 26, 2012, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Lance G. Clemons, age 52, was sentenced to 6 months of home confinement, 5 years of probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $44,060.57.

Clemons was indicted for failing to pay over $42,000 by a federal grand jury on May 3, 2011. Clemons was ordered by the District Court of Douglas County, Nebraska, to pay $369 per month for his minor children, commencing February 1, 2000. Said support was progressively reduced as each child obtained the age of majority. His current support is $273 per month. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since May 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $42,713.57. He pleaded guilty to the charge on December 29, 2011.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
