Wisconsin Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Hudson, Wisconsin, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on April 17, 2012, by US District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Robert Michael Schaller, age 50, was sentenced to 2 years of probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $28,715.26.

Schaller was indicted for failing to pay over $22,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on November 2, 2010. He was ordered by the Sisseton-Wahpeton-Oyate Court, Lake Traverse Indian Reservation, Agency Village, South Dakota, to pay $400 per month for his minor children commencing January 1, 2005. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since May 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $22,215.26.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
