Guatemalan Citizen Sentenced in Immigration Offense

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Juan Najera-Hernandez, age 37, a Guatemalan citizen, was sentenced on May 11, 2012, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier to time served (29 days).
Najera-Hernandez was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 1, 2012, for possession of a fraudulent immigration document. He came into contact with law enforcement in Minnehaha County on or about April 11, 2012. He had in his possession at that time a counterfeit Permanent Resident card. He pled guilty to the offense just prior to sentencing.

This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant US Attorney Connie Larson prosecuted the case.

Najera-Hernandez was immediately turned over to the custody of immigration authorities for deportation.
