Federal Prisoner Sentenced on Escape Charge

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Marlon Jermane Smith was sentenced on June 1, 2012, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Smith, age 33, was sentenced to 24 months consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving.

Smith was indicted for escaping from the Yankton Federal Prison Camp by a federal grand jury on September 7, 2011. He pled guilty to the offense on December 15, 2011.

This case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service. Assistant US Attorney Connie Larson prosecuted the case.

Smith was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
