
New Jersey Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Highland Lakes, New Jersey, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on July 2, 2012, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Ronald G. Jones, Sr., age 45, was sentenced to 5 years of probation, 6 months of home confinement, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $50,423.00. Jones was indicted for failing to pay over $43,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on May 3, 2011. Jones was ordered by the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division-Family Part, Sussex County, to pay $500 per month for his minor children, commencing April 1, 1995. The same Order entered a judgment for child support arrears in the amount of $2,400. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since October 2008, and the total arrearage amount was $43,538. He pleaded guilty to the charge on February 27, 2012. This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case. |
