Huron Resident Pleads Guilty to Immigration Offense

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Leodan Antonio Erazo, age 39, of Huron, appeared before Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier on November 8, 2012, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with illegal reentry after deportation. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 2 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

Erazo came into contact with law enforcement in Huron on August 18, 2012. A fingerprint check revealed that he had previously been deported to Honduras in 2009 and was in the United States illegally. The investigation was conducted by the Huron Police Department and the US Department of Homeland Security - Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Connie Larson.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for December 14, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing.
