
Man Sentenced in Immigration Case

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Pedro Ramos Garcia, a/k/a Israel Martinez Ramos, age 35, a national of Guatemala, was sentenced on November 5, 2012, by US District Judge Lawrence L. Piersol to three months in custody with credit for time served. He will be turned over to immigration authorities for deportation upon his release from prison. Ramos Garcia was indicted for illegal reentry after deportation by a federal grand jury on September 11, 2012. He pled guilty to the offense on September 24, 2012. The defendant came into contact with law enforcement in Charles Mix County on August 13, 2012. It was learned from a fingerprint check that he had previously been deported to Guatemala and had illegally reentered the United States. This case was investigated by the US Department of Homeland Security - Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant US Attorney Connie Larson prosecuted the case. The Defendant was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
