>TYLER, Texas – A 38-year-old Gilmer, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Charles David McWhorter pleaded guilty on Nov. 28, 2011, to possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.

                According to information presented in court, on July 31, 2009, McWhorter purchased cold pills containing pseudoephedrine at a Drug Emporium store in Longview, Texas.  On that same day, he made three additional purchases at other stores in the area, all in furtherance of his methamphetamine manufacturing activities.  McWhorter was indicted by a federal grand jury on Apr. 6, 2011.

                This case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, the Upshur County Sheriff's Office and the Gilmer Police Department.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
