New York Man Sentenced to 108 Months for Bank Fraud

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Edward Dickey, 50, of Bronx, New York, was sentenced today to 108 months in prison for his role in a bank fraud scheme that resulted in a total loss of approximately $286,000 to Bank of America and SunTrust Bank.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; David E. Beach, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service’s Washington Field Office; and Colonel David Rohrer, Fairfax County Chief of Police, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Liam O’Grady.

Dickey pled guilty on Nov. 3, 2010, to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.  According to court documents, from December 2009 through January 2010 Dickey made unauthorized withdrawals from bank customers’ accounts by writing counter checks or filling out withdrawal slips.  He used counterfeit driver’s licenses that included their names and addresses along with his photograph as forms of identification and fake credit cards in the names of customers as secondary forms of identification.

In December 2010, Dickey tried unsuccessfully to withdraw his guilty plea.

In addition to the prison term, Dickey was ordered to serve three years of supervised release upon his discharge from prison and to pay restitution to the two banks in the amount of $286,000.

This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Fairfax County Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Belevetz prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
