Mexican National Sentenced to 65 Months in Prison for Illegal Re-Entry
RICHMOND, Va. – Isidoro Zapata-Calzada, 54, an illegal alien from Mexico was sentenced yesterday to 65 months in prison for illegal re-entry after a prior deportation and conviction of an aggravated felony for aggravated sexual battery.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Henry Lucero, field office director of the ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C., made the announcement after the sentencing by United States District Judge Henry E. Hudson.
“We will not tolerate those who show a blatant disregard for our nation's immigration laws," said Henry Lucero, field office director of the ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C. "This prison sentence sends a message of deterrence to criminal aliens who think they can treat our borders like a revolving door."
According to court documents, Zapata-Calzada was deported in February 2003, after being convicted in the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, Va., for aggravated sexual battery. Zapata-Calzada was sentenced to eight years in prison, with five years suspended. The victim in that case was under the age of 13.
The Richmond office of the United States Attorney’s Office has indicted more than 60 illegal re-entry cases in 2011.
This case was investigated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney S. David Schiller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
