Culpeper Man Sentenced to 27 Months for Defrauding Ashburn Company of Nearly $1.5 Million
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Floyd E. Finkle III, 46, of Culpeper, Va., was sentenced today to 27 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for a fraud scheme that caused nearly $1.5 million in losses at Telos Corporation, a company based in Ashburn, Va.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; David E. Beach, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service’s Washington Field Office; and Michael L. Chapman, Loudoun County Sheriff, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge T. S. Ellis III. Finkle pleaded guilty on Aug. 11, 2011.
According to court documents, Finkle, a former Facilities Manager of Telos Corporation, admitted stealing various supplies and products from the company. Finkle admitted that he ordered various supplies and products from certain vendors without the company’s authorization and had them personally delivered to his residence or his office. Finkle resold the stolen items on eBay for personal gain, kept them for personal use, or sold them for cash. The vendors submitted the invoices to Telos for payment, and Finkle approved them knowing that the items included in the invoices were never utilized or installed at Telos. Finkle also admitted to asking for and receiving kickbacks and gratuities from various vendors in exchange for steering Telos business to them.
At sentencing, Finkle was ordered to pay $1,468,211 in restitution.
This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jasmine Yoon prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
