
Hampton Man Pleads Guilty to Production of Child Pornography
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Ryan Chiles, 23, of Hampton, Va., pleaded guilty today to production of child pornography.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States District Judge Arenda Wright Allen.
Chiles was indicted in September 13, 2011 by a federal grand jury on distribution of child pornography charges. A superseding indictment was returned adding additional charges of production of child pornography on November 9, 2011 . Chiles faces a maximum penalty of thirty years when he is sentenced on June 22, 2012.
According to a statement of facts filed with his plea agreement, Chiles admitted to filming two neighborhood boys, ages 12-13, committing a sex act at his direction. He also molested one of the boys. A search of his computer revealed child pornography.
This case was investigated by DHS, ICE-Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa R. McKeel is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
