MS-13 Gang Member Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Fairfax Child Pleads Guilty to Illegally Re-Entering U.S.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Salvador Portillo, 30, a citizen and national of El Salvador, and member of the MS-13 street gang, who was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a child in Fairfax County, Va., pled guilty today to illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli, II, and M. Yvonne Evans, Acting Field Office Director of the ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C., made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States District Judge Claude M. Hilton.
According to court documents, Portillo illegally entered the United States and was deported by immigration authorities on Oct. 8, 2003. Thereafter, Portillo again illegally reentered the United States and was found in Loudoun County, Va., on Nov. 21, 2010. On Dec. 26, 2010, Portillo sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl in Fairfax County, Va. He was subsequently convicted of rape and sodomy in the Fairfax County Circuit Court and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Portillo was indicted for illegal reentry on Feb. 23, 2012, and was transferred from state to federal custody on July 12, 2012. He faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison when he is sentenced on August 31, 2012.
This case was investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Virginia Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant United States Attorney Marc Birnbaum is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
