U.S. ATTORNEY'S OFFICE FOR WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON TO HANDLE SPOKANE MAYOR PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

United States Attorney John McKay, Western District of Washington and United States Attorney James A. McDevitt, Eastern District of Washington jointly announced today that the preliminary FBI investigation into possible federal criminal violations by Spokane Mayor Jim West will be directed by the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington.

The FBI preliminary investigation was confirmed last week by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Washington. The Eastern District asked to be recused from supervising the investigation and the Department of Justice approved the transfer of the case to the Western District of Washington.

In accordance with Department of Justice guidelines there will be no further information or comment on the investigation.
