REPEAT OFFENDER SENTENCED TO LENGTHY TERM FOR ASSAULT ON FEDERAL OFFICERS
Defendant Shot as He Nearly Hit Marshals With Car as He Fled
KEEVE LEE WILSON, 24, of Seattle, Washington was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Seattle to 60 months in prison for two counts of Assault on a Federal Officer. The 60 month sentence is to run following an 84 month sentence handed down in King County Superior Court, which means WILSON will be incarcerated for a term of 12 years. At sentencing U.S. District Court Judge John C. Coughenour told him he was lucky to be alive since he was only wounded, not killed by Federal Marshals who fired at WILSON as he threw his car into reverse and backed quickly towards them as he fled.
On January 31, 2006 WILSON was being sought on a warrant for second degree assault. Members of the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force were searching for WILSON in West Seattle when they spotted his car at a 7-11. They saw WILSON come out of the store and pulled their van in front of WILSON’s car so he could not escape. They identified themselves and ordered WILSON to lie on the ground. Instead, WILSON dove for the car. WILSON struggled with one officer, but was able to reach the drivers seat and tried to throw the car into gear to get away from officers. One officer had to dive out of the way of the speeding car. The other ordered WILSON to stop and when he did not, fired twice hitting him in the leg. WILSON sped away but was later arrested at a hospital where he went for treatment of his gunshot wound.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshal Service and the Seattle Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William H. Redkey, Jr.
