HELLS ANGELS TRIAL TEAM RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING WORK ON RICO CONVICTION
First RICO Jury Verdicts Against Notorious Outlaw Motorcycle Club in Twenty Years
The Department of Justice held its 25th Annual Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) Director’s Awards Ceremony today, during which 160 award recipients were recognized for their excellence in law enforcement. Recipients included Assistant United States Attorneys, law enforcement agents, litigation and information technology support personnel, and others who have made outstanding contributions in federal, state and local law enforcement.
Three attorneys and two litigation support staff from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington, were honored for their work on the RICO conviction of members of the Hells Angels Nomad Chapter. Attorneys Mike Lang, Bruce Miyake, Tessa Gorman, Paralegal Janet Vos and Legal Assistant Stephanie Orona received Director’s Awards today.
"The attorneys, agents and staff we honor today are dedicated public servants," said Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey. "Today's award recipients are leaders in carrying out the Department's mission, and the citizens in the communities they serve should be proud of their efforts and accomplishments."
While terrorism remains the top priority of the Department of Justice, the Department has continued its mission to enforce all of our nation’s laws, including prosecuting civil rights violations, gang violence and drug crimes, as well as representing our client agencies, conducting civil enforcement, and assisting victims of crime.
“For too long members of the Hells Angels Nomads chapter in Washington State terrified the citizens who had the misfortune to cross their path. I’m proud of our trial team that pierced the culture of silence and intimidation this criminal group used to try to hide their unlawful activities,” said U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan.
Following the ten-week trial, the defendants were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Rodney Rollness is serving life in prison, Joshua Binder was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and the president of the Hells Angels chapter, Rick Fabel, was sentenced to more than 7 years in prison.
