EVERETT FELON SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR GUN POSSESSION
Defendant was on Probation when He was Arrested with Unloaded Gun in his Pocket
RONNIE LEE MASON, 41, of Everett, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Seattle to 70 months in prison and three years of supervised release for being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. MASON was found guilty of the charge following a two day trial in October 2007. At sentencing U.S. District Judge James L. Robart noted that “there simply was not a good reason for Mr. Mason to have a gun.”
According to records in the case and testimony at trial, on February 15, 2007, MASON was approached by an Everett Police Officer who was investigating a burglary in downtown Everett. The officer became suspicious of MASON, based on his actions and demeanor. A pat down search revealed that MASON had an unloaded Colt .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his pants pocket. MASON was barred from possessing a firearm because of previous felony convictions for robbery, assault and drug crimes.
At sentencing Special Assistant United States Attorney Adam Cornell told the court, “The defendant is a danger to society... The defendant was on probation at the time of the offense.”
The case was investigated by the Everett Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Untied States Attorney Kate Crisham and Special Assistant United States Attorney Adam Cornell. Mr. Cornell is a Deputy Snohomish County Prosecutor specially designated to prosecute drug and gun cases in federal court.
