ROBERT L. CALKINS, 25, of Marysville, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Seattle by United States District Judge Robert S. Lasnik to three years imprisonment, to be followed by three years supervised release, for trafficking in pharmaceutical controlled substances, to include oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone, stolen from pharmacies during pharmacy burglaries.

On October 27, 2005, law enforcement officers arrested CALKINS outside a motel room in Mukilteo, Washington. A search of his backpack uncovered large quantities of pharmaceutical controlled substances packaged for distribution, including oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone, in various strengths, totaling in excess of 4,000 pills, which he possessed intending to sell and distribute to others. Oxycodone and methadone are Schedule II controlled substances and hydrocodone is a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law. CALKINS had received the drugs from pharmacy burglars that were operating as part of a pharmacy burglary ring in Marysville, Washington.

This is an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ronald J. Friedman.
