ALFONSO RAMIREZ GARCIA, 31, was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to seven years in prison and five years of supervised release for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. RAMIREZ GARCIA is a Mexican National who will likely be deported following his prison term. He was arrested August 28, 2008, following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Tahoma Narcotics Task Force. GARCIA is the last of three co-conspirators to be sentenced. MIGUEL ANGEL TORRES, 26, a citizen of Mexico was sentenced on August 10, 2009, to seven years in prison. JESUS CORTES EUFRAGIO, 24, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced on August 31, to 70 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle imposed the sentences.

According to the records filed in the case, a confidential informant identified JESUS CORTES EUFRAGIO as a methamphetamine dealer. Under police supervision the confidential informant purchased meth from EUFRAGIO on July 21, 2008. A month later, EUFRAGIO and the informant agreed to a one pound drug deal. Law enforcement watched as EUFRAGIO met with GARCIA and TORRES at a Tacoma restaurant. GARCIA and TORRES gave EUFRAGIO the meth which was later delivered to the confidential informant. GARCIA and TORRES were followed to a residence where they were arrested. Additional methamphetamine was seized at the residence.

GARCIA pleaded guilty April 14, 2009.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Tahoma Narcotics Task Force.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Doug Hill. Mr. Hill is a Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor specially designated to prosecute drug cases in federal court.
