
Four Individuals Indicted for Illegal Reentry into the United States and One Individual Indicted for Misrepresenting his Citizenship
James L. Santelle, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced today that a federal grand jury has returned indictments against four individuals for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). If convicted, the below-listed individuals face 2 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to 1 year of supervised release:

A fifth individual, Gabriel GONZALEZ-Soto, was indicted for giving false statements to special agents regarding his immigration status, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 911. If convicted, Mr. Gonzalez-Soto faces 3 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
All defendants also face removal from the United States.
All of the defendants were arrested as part of Operation Community Shield, an ongoing national Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations initiative that targets foreign-born gang members and gang associates. The recent operation in Milwaukee was conducted in partnership with the Milwaukee Police Department and specifically targeted foreign-born gang members and their associates throughout the Milwaukee area.
The public is cautioned that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
