Man Sentenced for Illegal Re-Entry Into U.S.
Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jesus Almendarez-Castillo, 48, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 27 months in prison, without the possibility of parole, for illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported. Almendarez-Castillo pleaded guilty to this charge on July 29, 2011.
Almendarez-Castillo was arrested outside his home in Watertown, Wis., on May 3, 2011. A records check revealed that in 1989, Almendarez-Castillo was convicted of transportation of marijuana in California and was ordered removed from the United States in 1991.
The charge against Almendarez-Castillo was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Homeland Security Investigations. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter M. Jarosz.
