
Grand Jury Returns Three Indictments
Madison, Wisconsin -- A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, returned the following indictments today. You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
WAUSAU MAN CHARGED WITH DISTRIBUTING COCAINE
Adrian Haynes, 33, Wausau, Wis., is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The indictment alleges that the conspiracy took place from March 2008 until December 2010, and that it involved at least 500 grams of cocaine. He is also charged with attempting to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute, and with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.
If convicted, Haynes faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum penalty of 40 years in federal prison on the conspiracy count, and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on each of the other two counts. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Marathon County Sheriff's Department and Wausau Police Department. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul W. Connell.
MAUSTON MAN CHARGED WITH SOCIAL SECURITY CRIMES
Shane Plumley, 31, Mauston, Wis., is charged with concealing information from the Social Security Administration (SSA) with the intent to fraudulently secure payment of Supplemental Security Income benefits. The indictment alleges that he concealed from the SSA that he was incarcerated from December 2008 to December 2010, in order to deceive the SSA into making benefit payments to him when he was ineligible to receive such payments.
The second count of the indictment charges him with making a false statement to the SSA on March 21, 2011, and count three charges him with submitting a written form to the SSA on March 24, 2011, which falsely certified he had not been incarcerated from December 2008 through March 2011.
If convicted, Plumley faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison on each count. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Munish Sharda.
ALIEN CHARGED WITH ILLEGALLY RE-ENTERING U.S.
David Mendoza-Guzman, 42, a Mexican citizen found living in Alma Center, Wis., is charged with re-entering the United States after previously being deported. The indictment alleges that he was found in the United States on March 25, 2012.
If convicted, Mendoza-Guzman faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Munish Sharda.
