Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA — Girls and boys will accompany a parent or mentor to work on April 23, 2009, for the seventh “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day.” This year’s theme is Building Partnerships to Educate and Empower.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that the United States Attorney’s Office will once again participate in this event. A total of 16 students will report to work for an educational experience with a parent or aunt, and they include: Elizabeth Brann “Libby” Altmeyer, who will accompany her mother, Assistant United States Attorney Helen Campbell Altmeyer; Jaylyn Anderson, who will accompany her aunt, Administrative Technician Greta W. Anderson; Clayton and Kent Bee, who will accompany their mother, Legal Assistant Laurel Kay Bee; Dana and Laura Bernard, who will accompany their father, Assistant United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard; Daniel Bird, who will accompany his mother, Legal Assistant Victoria E. Ford; Jaclyn, Jacob, and Gretchen Hack, who will accompany their mother, FBI Special Agent Lisa M. Hack; Allison Kresen, who will accompany her mother, United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter; Jacob Lewellen, who will accompany his mother, Legal Assistant Lisa Swiger Lewellen; Hannah and Nathaneal Murray, who will accompany their mother, Legal Assistant Leanna B. Murray; Lexi Saunders, who will accompany her aunt, Legal Assistant Stacy B. Walters;and Slater Shelek, who will accompany his father, Heath Care Fraud Auditor Donald W. Shelek.

Plans for “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day” include participation in a staff meeting, a Mock Trial with the students taking an active role, a visit with the United States Marshal’s Office, as well as working with their parent/aunt.

Schools participating in “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day” include: East Dale Elementary, Ellenboro Elementary School, Elm Grove Elementary School, Madison Elementary School, Opequon Elementary School, Potomack Intermediate School, Spring Mills Middle School, St. Clairsville Elementary School, St. Clairsville Middle School, Steenrod Elementary School, Triadelphia Middle School, and Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

“This program emphasizes education for youth which will lead to empowering our children to take better control of their lives now and in the future,” stated USA Potter. “School administrators continue to partner with us so that our youth can be excused to participate in the program, and we are thankful for their participation.”
