Florida Resident Indicted in West Virginia
For Filing False Documents to Discourage
Potential Buyers at Public Auction
ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA — A 60 year old Plantation, Florida, resident was named in an Indictment returned on February 18, 2009, by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Elkins, West Virginia.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that DAVID STEPHEN EYE was named in a one-count Indictment charging him with corrupt interference with the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, the Indictment alleges that from March 16, 2007, to April 28, 2008, EYE filed false documents to discourage potential buyers to certain real property at a public auction.
If convicted, EYE faces a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment and a fine of $5,000.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen D. Warner. The case was investigated by the United States Department of Treasury, Inspector General for Tax Administration.
It should be noted that the charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
