Shinnston Resident Entered Guilty Plea to Tax Violation

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 64 year old Shinnston, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on January 26, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JOHN MICHAEL HARNETT entered a plea of guilty to an Information charging him with attempting to evade the payment of trust fund tax liabilities in the amount of $173,578.25 from July 10, 2003, to January 8, 2008.

HARNETT, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of $100,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Angus Morgan. The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation Division.
