Morgantown Resident Sentenced on “Crack” Cocaine Charge
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 34 year old Morgantown, West Virginia, resident was sentenced on January 16, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that ASHLEY ADKINS was sentenced to 41 months imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release. ADKINS entered a plea of guilty on September 26, 2008, to one count of possession with intent to distribute “crack” cocaine on May 8, 2008, in Morgantown. ADKINS was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a federal institution.
During an investigation conducted by the Mon Valley Drug Task Force, a confidential informant made multiple purchases from ADKINS of “crack” cocaine and cocaine HCL. The informant also gave ADKINS cash to purchase “crack” cocaine. ADKINS then obtained 1.8 grams of “crack” and was arrested as she was bringing it back to the confidential informant. ADKINS admitted her involvement to law enforcement officials.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr.
The Mon Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force consists of officers from the Morgantown Police Department, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
