Martinsburg Resident Entered
A Guilty Plea to Fraud Charge
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 29 year old Martinsburg, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on January 22, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JONATHAN KEITH WORKMAN entered a plea of guilty to one count of unauthorized use of access devices with the intent to defraud. Between March of 2003 and August of 2006, WORKMAN opened a total of 11 accounts with five different banking institutions and obtained credit cards on each account in the names of other persons. WORKMAN then used these credit cards to obtain goods and services to pay for day to day living expenses, to finance his business, and to support his personal marijuana use. The total loss for the 11 credit cards was $140,608.98.
WORKMAN, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas O. Mucklow. The case was investigated by the Martinsburg Police Department and the United States Secret Service.
