Three Harrison County Residents Sentenced on
Firearms and Drug Charges

 

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — Three Harrison County residents were sentenced on July 30, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that:

MICHAEL SHAWN LOWTHER, also known as “MIKE,” age 29, of Clarksburg, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. LOWTHER entered a plea of guilty on April 16, 2009, to one count of an Information charging him with knowingly possessing, selling, and disposing of a stolen firearm on March 28, 2008. LOWTHER is currently free on bond and will self-report to a designated federal institution.

TYRA O’MARA, age 23, of Shinnston, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. O’MARA entered pleas of guilty on April 17, 2009, to a two-count Information charging her with conspiracy to violate Federal Firearms Laws; and aiding and abetting in knowingly making or causing to be made a false statement or representation with respect to information required to be kept in Federal Firearms Licensee’s records. O’MARA is currently in custody.

The cases were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department; the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force; the West Virginia State Police; and the Three Rivers Drug Task Force. The Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force consists of officers from the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Three Rivers Drug Task Force consists of officers from the Fairmont Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

DERRICK SAVAGE, also known as “TRAPPER,” age 26, of Clarksburg, was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment to be followed by six years supervised release, to be served concurrent with his 12 months sentence imposed for violating the terms of his supervised release by committing the drug distribution to which he pled guilty. SAVAGE entered a plea of guilty on April 20, 2009, to one count of an Indictment charging him with the distribution of “crack” cocaine within 1,000 feet of Broadway Park Playground in Clarksburg on October 2, 2008.

The case was investigated by the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force and the United States Probation Office.

The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Angus Morgan.
