Six USP Hazelton Inmates Were Sentenced
on Various Federal Violations

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — Six federal inmates at USP Hazelton were sentenced on August 24, August 25, and August 31, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that:

AMON HAMLIN was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. HAMLIN entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with assaulting another inmate using a shank on December 24, 2008, at USP Hazelton.

JULIUS LYONS, age 30, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. LYONS entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with physically resisting an Officer while armed with a shank on December 24, 2008, during an altercation with another inmate at USP Hazelton.

JAMAR MCCOY, age 25, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. MCCOY entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with forcibly resisting an Officer while armed with a shank on January 9, 2009, at USP Hazelton.

FRANK TORRES-COLON, age 32, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. TORRES-COLON entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with assaulting another inmate using a shank on April 18, 2009, at USP Hazelton.

GUILLERMO VEGA, age 33, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. VEGA entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with assault after VEGA and another inmate beat a third inmate by hitting and kicking him and inflicting cuts and bruises to the victim’s face at USP Hazelton.

EDWARD WILLIAMS, age 32, was sentenced to to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. WILLIAMS entered a plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with assaulting another inmate using a shank on September 14, 2008, at USP Hazelton.

The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David E. Godwin. The cases were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigative Services at USP Hazelton.
