Clarksburg Resident Enters Guilty Plea to
Drug Charge within 1,000 Feet of a Playground
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 36 year old Clarksburg, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on October 1, 2010, in United States District Court in Clarksburg before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that JEFFREY LEE BARNES, also known as “JEFF,” entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging him with the distribution of oxycodone within 1,000 feet of Harrison County Headstart playground on July 18, 2008, in Clarksburg.
BARNES, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 40 years imprisonment and a fine of $2,000,000.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Angus Morgan. The case was investigated by the Veterans Administration - Office of Inspector General, the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. The Task Force consists of officers from the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
