Wheeling Resident Enters Plea to Embezzelment

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - A 42 year old Wheeling, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on April 4, 2011, in United States District Court in Wheeling before Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that JEFFREY HORNICK entered a plea of guilty to one count of embezzlement of public monies. HORNICK embezzled money from the Social Security Administration through Social Security widow benefits made to his deceased mother, to which he was not entitled, in the approximate value of $32,573.00 from February 2006 continuing through July 2009. HORNICK, who is on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard and was investigated by Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General.
