Cleveland Resident Sentenced for a Violation
of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 29 year old Cleveland, Ohio, resident was sentenced on December 13, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that CARDELL D. COVINGTON was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment to be followed by ten years of supervised release. COVINGTON entered a plea of guilty on September 1, 2011, to one count of an Indictment charging COVINGTON, who was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, with traveling in interstate commerce and failing to update his registration from February 2011 to June 6, 2011, in Harrison County. COVINGTON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen D. Warner and was investigated by the United States Marshals Service, the Harrison County Sheriff’s
Department, and the Clarksburg Police Department.
