Point Marion, Pennsylvania, Resident Sentenced
for Making False Statements in Bankruptcy Case
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 42 year old Point Marion, Pennsylvania, resident was sentenced on July 7, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that RICHARD W. POWELL, JR. was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release, and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12,029.83. POWELL was convicted at trial on December 21, 2010, of making false statements in a letter to a bankruptcy trustee in order to influence or obstruct the administration of the bankruptcy in January 2009.
POWELL is currently free on bond and will self-report to a designated federal institution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew R. Cogar and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
