Falling Waters Resident Sentenced to 5 Years
for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

May is the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Childhood” Month

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 64 year old Falling Waters, West Virginia, was sentenced on May 9, 2011, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that GUY GORDON MARSH was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment to be followed by 30 years supervised release. MARSH entered a plea of guilty on January 24, 2011, to one count of an Indictment charging him with failure to register as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. In 2003, MARSH was convicted of sodomy in the State of Maryland and was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years following his conviction. In October 2010, the United States Marshal Service became aware that MARSH was residing in Falling Waters, West Virginia. A records check revealed that MARSH had not recorded a change of address with the State of Maryland, as required by law; nor had he registered as a sex offender in the State of West Virginia, as required by law. MARSH is in federal custody. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber and was investigated by the United States Marshal Service.

May is the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Month, aimed at bringing awareness to and preventing crimes that exploit children. “It is our responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us and those who cannot speak out or stand up for themselves,” states USA Ihlenfeld. “This is just one example of the many cases we prosecute each year in order to make sure that sex offenders comply with their obligation to register.”
