Special Assistant United States Attorney
Takes Oath of Office

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — William J. Ihlenfeld, II, United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia, announced the appointment of Kimberley D. Crockett to the position of Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) with his office. Crockett was formally administered her Oath of Office on October 18, 2011, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.

“We’re very pleased to have Kim Crockett joining our office. Her skills as a prosecutor will be utilized in federal court to help us to keep the community safe,” said USA Ihlenfeld. “Kim will handle cases that arise out of the Eastern Panhandle, with a priority being placed on cases involving heroin trafficking and cases involving the possession of firearms by prohibited persons.”
According to Ihlenfeld, Crockett is one of several SAUSAs that will be added to the staff of the U.S. Attorney’s office. In addition to the Martinsburg office, new assistants will also be added in the Clarksburg and Wheeling offices to handle the increase in prosecutions that is expected in those parts of the district.

Crockett is an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Jefferson County, where she has been working since January 2011. She is a felony prosecutor who handles primarily prosecutions involving crimes against children. In addition, Crockett previously served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Berkeley County for six years. She also served as statutory counsel for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in its child abuse and neglect proceedings while in Berkeley County.

“Kimberley Crockett’s appointment as a Special Assistant United States Attorney presents a unique opportunity for the citizens of Jefferson County,” stated Ralph A. Lorenzetti, Jr., Prosecuting Attorney of Jefferson County. “This cooperative effort between federal and county authorities will greatly enhance our ability to combat crime within the community. I think the United States Attorney will find that Kim Crockett is a hard-working and talented attorney who will be a wonderful addition to the office, and I would personally like to thank Mr. Ihlenfeld for the assistance of his resources.”

Crockett received both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism, graduating cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from West Virginia University. She was an English Instructor at Delaware State University before earning a law degree from the West Virginia College of Law. Crockett had the honor of serving as a Law Clerk Extern to the late Honorable W. Craig Broadwater during her final year in law school.

Crockett resides in Falling Waters with her husband Brian and their two sons, Satchel and Sidney Crockett.
