Morgantown Resident Sentenced on
Transportation of Child Pornography Charge

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 22-year old Morgantown, West Virginia, resident was sentenced on October 26, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that JEFFREY ALAN MARSHALL was sentenced to 78 months imprisonment to be followed by ten years of supervised release. MARSHALL entered a plea of guilty on May 16, 2011, to one count of an Indictment charging him with transportation of child pornography on April 18, 2010, in Morgantown by using his computer and the internet to send child pornographic videos to another computer user via e-mail. As part of his plea, MARSHALL agreed to the forfeiture of his computer. MARSHALL, who is free on bond, will self-report to the designated Federal Institution on January 4, 2012.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The case was prosecuted by United States Attorney David J. Perri and was investigated by the West Virginia State Police.
