Ohio Resident Sentenced on Heroin Charge
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - A 43year old Bellaire, Ohio, resident was sentenced today (September 23, 2011), in United States District Court in Wheeling by Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that PETER POON was sentenced to 41 months imprisonment to be followed by six years of supervised release. POON
entered a plea of guilty on August 3, 2011, to one count of distribution of heroin within 1,000 feet of the Bloch playground on June 17, 2011, on Wheeling Island.
On June 7, 2011, POON was indicted for his role in an oxycodone and cocaine conspiracy, as part of the David Kidd investigation. POON was subsequently arrested and released on bond conditions on June 9, 2011. Following his release, two controlled buys of heroin were made from POON and POON was arrested shortly after the second distribution and an inventory search of his vehicle resulted in seven additional bags of heroin and $1,622 in currency being found. As part of his plea, POON admitted and was sentenced for distributing between one and two pounds of cocaine and at least 10 grams (more than 250 stamp bags) of heroin. He also agreed to abandon the drug proceeds recovered.
POON, who has been in custody since his arrest on this charge, was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.
The case was prosecuted by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II and Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr and was investigated by the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force. The Task Force consists of officers from the Wheeling Police Department, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
