Five Individuals Sentenced in Federal Court
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - Six individuals were sentenced on August 20, 2012, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Judge Gina M. Groh.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that:
VONZELL WADE CAREY, age 33, of Kearneysville, West Virginia, was sentenced to 188 months imprisonment to be followed by six years of supervised release. CAREY entered a plea of guilty on May 3, 2012, to the Distribution of Crack Cocaine in Martinsburg. CAREY was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal Institution.
WILLIAM RONALD MONROE, age 32, of Washington, DC, was sentenced to 92 months imprisonment to be followed by six years of supervised release. MONROE entered a plea of guilty on May 2, 2012, to the Distribution of Crack Cocaine in Falling Waters, West Virginia. MONROE was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal Institution.
AARON LEE HAIRSTON, age 25, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment to be followed by six years of supervised release. HAIRSTON entered a plea of guilty on March 15, 2012, to Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin within 1,000 Feet of Rosemont Elementary School in Martinsburg. HAIRSTON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal Institution.
These cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas O. Mucklow and were investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg Police Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
BRANDON LEE SPAUR, age 25, of Martinsburg, was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment to be followed by four years of supervised release. BRANDON LEE SPAUR entered a plea of guilty on May 2, 2012, to one count of possession with intent to distribute 37.9 grams crack cocaine in Berkeley County, West Virginia. On December 7, 2011, during a search of SPAUR’s residence, the crack cocaine was seized as well as three handguns and $5,000 in U.S. currency. SPAUR was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber and was investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force.
DERRAN HANKINS, age 30, of Randallstown, Maryland, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment to be followed by five years of supervised release. HANKINS entered a plea of guilty on May 4, 2012, to Bank Fraud on August 13, 2011, by obtaining money under the control of SunTrust Bank by means of materially false and fraudulent representations. HANKINS was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti and was investigated by the United States Secret Service, the West Virginia State Police; and, the Arlington, Virginia, Police Department.
