Clarksburg Resident Sentenced in Federal Court

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 43 year old Clarksburg, West Virginia, was sentenced on January 13, 2012, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: JOHN S. CAYTON was sentenced to 50 months imprisonment to be followed by six years of supervised release. CAYTON entered a plea of guilty on September 30, 2011, to one count of distribution of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of Adamston Elementary School on January 17, 2011, in Clarksburg; and one count of failure to appear at a pretrial conference scheduled for June 8, 2011, as required by his bond release conditions. CAYTON’s sentence was enhanced because he knowingly failed to appear for the scheduled pretrial conference in his drug case and absconded from pretrial supervision. CAYTON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn A. Morgan and was investigated by the Harrison County Task Force and the United States Marshals Service. The task force consists of officers from the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Bridgeport Police Department.
