Man who sold Autos to Drug Dealer sentenced in Federal Court

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - The last defendant from the David Kidd drug organization - one that illegally brought hundreds of thousands of pain pills to the Ohio Valley
- was sentenced today in United States District Court in Wheeling.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that car salesman JOHN BURRESS, age 40, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment to be followed by two years of supervised release. BURRESS previously entered a plea of guilty on May 30, 2012, to “Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments.”

The investigation into the drug organization determined that at least four vehicles were purchased from BURRESS, a salesman at Staffalino’s Chevrolet in Martins Ferry, by ringleader David Kidd with monies obtained from the sale of oxycodone pills. During two of the sales to Kidd, who paid with cash, BURRESS caused the autos to be titled in someone else’s name.

BURRESS, who is free on bond, will self-report to a designated federal institution on
January 30, 2013.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr.
